On the occasion of the arrival to the number 100 of the journal Espacio
Abierto, a reflection about its trajectory and impact on the social
sciences of the last 30 years is presented. First, there are evidential
elements of editorial consistency, adherence to the principles of
evaluation in the “double blind” scheme and positioning in the international
academic community. Secondly, there is a quantitative
approach to impact, referring to the number of proposals received,
origin -countries and universities-, authorship, etc. Thirdly, from the
examination of published materials, a qualitative approach is shown
that It is linked to changes occurred in discipline. Finally, the characteristics
of current sociology, with a more defined profile, are indicated.
