Nature and contingency in the Modern Family
This paper aims to present a conceptual-theoretical framework for
modern family. In order to achieve this goal, family is defined as a
social system in the context of modern functional differentiation.
Given its character as social system, family is approached from
the distinction inclusion/ exclusion and is explored the scope of
inclusion modes in other functional systems. The paper concludes
with a reflection on the state of art of the sociology of the family
and some challenges that can be identified.
